I was hoping for a solid performance from Casey Carlson last night, but alas, it did not happen. I am a huge fan (obviously), so if there was any way of sugar coating it I would give it a try. Yet to be honest the performance was pretty bad in a number of ways. It really came down to the song choice. How do you choose the Police's "Every Little Things She Does is Magic" for American Idol and not sound like you are singing karaoke? The song also had very little range and did not allow Casey to show her talent. She looked great, as always, but that was about all she had going for her last night. I felt so bad for her when the judges were tearing her performance apart. You could see in her face that she knew she blew it.
So is there any hope now? While Casey's chances are slim right now, there are a couple of possibilities. First of all, none of the other girls really blew me away. Alexis Grace probably was the best of the bunch, but her performance was not mind blowing and she also received very little camera time in previous episodes. Anne Marie did a solid job, but was nothing special. Jackie sang okay, but I do not know if America is going to like the whole act she puts together. And what was up with those pants?! Unfortunately Tatiana actually sang decently well and people do like watching crazy people...
Second, there is always the possibility of the wild card round. Casey obviously did not impress the judges much tonight, but I know Simon thinks she is hot and Kara really seems to like her. She talked about the complete package thing again, this time wishing that her performance had matched Kara's expectations. At the end of the next three weeks, there will be 27 contestants remaining and 12 of them will go on to the wild card round. I think she has a real chance to make the wild card round and then could get a chance to redeem herself.
I guess we will find out what happens tonight, then will probably have to wait until the wild card round singers are announced for more.
